Welcome to Galloping Tintypes, a website dedicated to the lost art of silent films.
Silent movies occupy a twilight realm between books and talking pictures. Because both our eyes and imaginations are engaged at the same time, silent movies have the power to absorb and enchant far beyond talking pictures.
If you have never seen a silent movie, we envy your journey of discovery and hope the reviews and articles will be light and fun enough to encourage you to become a fan of the art form.
If you are already fan of these wonderful films, we hope that our enthusiasm will increase yours.
Our main focus will be on films from the silent feature period: 1915-1929. However, we will cover short films as well as latter day silent films. You'll be surprised where the art turns up nowadays.
