Silent Film:
Cinema in its Purest Form
Welcome to Galloping Tintypes, a website dedicated to the lost art of silent films.
Featured Review for July 2010

Well, the Summer blockbusters continue to come. How about something a little more imaginative? Try Ella Cinders, a sweet romantic comedy/Hollywood spoof. Not a sharp or mean bone in its body. The perfect antidote for a culture that prizes movies that go "boom!"
Why We're Here
Silent movies occupy a twilight realm between books and talking pictures. Because both our eyes and imaginations are engaged at the same time, silent movies have the power to absorb and enchant far beyond talking pictures.
The aim of this site is to create reviews and articles on silent movies that are fun, accessible and enthusiastic.. Our main focus will be on films from the silent feature period: 1915-1929. However, also covered will be remakes an homages to silent films, as well as later period silent films.
Features
- In-depth reviews of silent films.
- Biographies and pictures of stars and directors (these require a bit of research and will be slower in coming than the reviews.)

More features will be added regularly. Check back often to see how the site has grown!
